The Principal Secretary (PS) for Public Investments and Assets Management Mr. Cyrell Wagunda has implored the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) to continue cultivating ethical leadership, enforcing professional discipline and promoting a culture of accountability to all procurement professionals.

He noted that, procurement decisions affect the lives of millions of Kenyans thus every procurement practitioner must appreciate that integrity is not merely a legal obligation but a professional responsibility.
The PS made the remarks today during a closing ceremony for Kenya Institute of Supplies Management Council retreat in Naivasha.

The retreat was convened to review the Draft General Regulations under the Supplies Practitioners Management Act, Council and Committee Charters, Continuing Professional Development Guidelines and the policy framework for the Kenya College of Supply Chain Management.

PS Wagunda reiterated that the policy instruments under review are not just ordinary administrative documents but constitute the governance foundation that will shape the Institute's operations and professional standards for many years to come.

He expressed the Government's expectation for KISM to become a leading centre of excellence in professional regulation and governance.

"This calls for regulations that are practical, enforceable, forward-looking and responsive to the rapidly changing procurement environment. We expect prudent stewardship of public resources, adherence to the highest standards of financial management and timely implementation of Government policy directives," the PS affirmed.

He encouraged the Council to continue supporting the Kenya College of Supply Chain Management as a strategic institution for capacity building saying he College should become a regional centre of excellence that develops globally competitive procurement professionals, while supporting Government's agenda of skills development and institutional capacity strengthening.

On her part KISM Council Chairperson Ms. Jennifer Cirindi thanked the PS for the continued support which has enabled the Institute to register remarkable progress and achieve significant milestones.

Her sentiments were echoed by KISM Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Kenneth Matiba who disclosed the elaborate plan KISM is pursuing to strengthen stakeholder engagement and partnerships with Government institutions, development partners, academia and the private sector.
