PS WAGUNDA BRIEFED ON THE FORTHCOMING AFRICA CAPITAL WEEK 2026
The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Investments and Asset Management (SDPIAM) Mr. Cyrell Wagunda today hosted officials from Vision 2030 Secretariat for a briefing on the preparations of the forthcoming Africa Capital Week (AfCW) scheduled to take place on September 7th to 11th, 2026 in Nairobi.
The team led by Mr. James Maina, the Acting Director General, Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat (VDS) who is a member of the AfCW Secretariat made an elaborate presentation on the advanced plans already in place to ensure the inaugural Conference achieves its intended purpose.
He notified the PS that the Conference is estimated to bring together over 500 delegates drawn from 20 African countries in diverse fields among them securities exchanges, government, academia, institutional investors, multilaterals alongside other disciplines.
Mr. Maina highlighted that The AfCW 2026 is a connective catalyst for deepening capital markets to advance Africa’s economic sovereignty, structured to be a first permanent and replicable Pan African platform for Capital Markets, Private Equity, Global Investment and Government policy Makers to transform the mid-market.
He further reiterated that the Summit which shall be the first of its kind in the Continent is deemed to facilitate continental policy-harmonisation dialogue and showcase investor-ready and listing-ready pipeline projects.
He pointed out that SDPIAM’s mandate sits at the exact intersection AfCW is designed to work: turning public assets and public balance-sheet risk into structures that can crowd in private capital.
“AfCW supplies the investor platform; SDPIAM supplies the pipeline and governance credibility that makes it bankable,” he stated.
In his remarks, PS Wagunda appreciated the progress made by the AfCW 2026 Secretariat in ensuring the success of the Forum, noting that SDPIAM is committed to support the AfCW 2026 in every step.
PS Wagunda reiterated that AfCW shall be instrumental in expanding Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), deepening domestic capital markets for long-term development, unlocking value from public assets through innovative financing, crowding in institutional investors for national transformation projects.
The Director, Origination and Structuring at the PPP Directorate Ms. Christine Ng’ang’a, Director, Economic and Macro Department at VDS, Mr. Ismail Maaruf, and other key officials were present.
